In 2021, four high schoolers discussed the scarce number of youth engaged in community service. Realizing that limited participation was due to a lack of passion, they believed that the solution would be to encourage others their age to come up with and lead personal service projects.

In November of the same year, Yashaswi Sunkara, Caroline Ames, Ava Hecker, and Kyle Nguyen would create a group to provide support to those who weren't sure how to tackle issues they were passionate about in the community.

Today, Community Passion continues to serve as an official non-profit organization. Some examples of projects Community Passion has led include a Thanksgiving porch pickup, a blanket-making event in a nursing home to make blankets for local foster children, a kickball tournament to donate all proceeds to veterans, and a fan drive to collect and distribute fans to elderly individuals in the community who are in need of a way to cool their homes (ongoing).

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Community Passion is in need of more members willing to take on larger roles within the organization and who are creative enough to develop and lead projects they are passionate about. They are looking for current 9th-11th graders who would be interested in doing so.

If you know a student who is looking to make a difference in our local community, have them visit the Community Passion website to learn how they can join.
