Are you thinking about moving to Aquia Harbour and want to know what it’s really like?

In this episode of Give, Work, Play, I’m going to give you the pros and cons of one of Stafford, Virginia’s gated communities. We’ll look at everything from location to amenities so you know exactly what to expect when you live here.

About Aquia Harbour

If you're thinking of moving to Stafford, Virginia, you may be looking at homes in the gated community of Aquia Harbour. This neighborhood was originally designed as a weekend getaway for congressmen, people who wanted to boat, or those who simply wanted to escape the everyday life of working in DC.

Aquia Harbour is now geared towards anyone that wants to live in an amenity-filled subdivision close to shopping and dining. From this community, it’s a quick drive to Quantico with easy access to Route 95 and Route 1 heading up north to DC.

One of the top reasons why people love living in Aquia Harbour is its unique style of houses. The one right next door to you might be a completely different style home than what you're living in. As a gated community, it’s also unlike any other subdivision in the North Stafford area.

Plentiful Amenities

Some of the amenities that the community provides include 24-hour gated security, a 24-hour police department, two swimming pools, and even a summer swim team. Residents can also take advantage of the marina; if you have a boat, you've got a great place to take it.

Aquia Harbour also has an equestrian center. If you're interested in riding horses, you may have the possibility of boarding it right where you live. Other great amenities include a beautiful golf course, a co-op preschool, tennis courts, nine parks, a dog park, fishing, and a nature area. You can even walk over to Government Island to enjoy a stroll right along the water.

A Few Cons

While these are some of the top reasons why people love living in Aquia Harbour, there are a few cons. If you're seriously considering living there, you need to know the good and the bad.

Did you know that Aquia Harbour doesn't have sidewalks? For some people, that's a deal-breaker. Additionally, as a gated community, there’s only one way in and one way out. Every once in a while during busy hours, traffic backs up a little bit at the gate.

Another con is that there is an initiation fee to get into the community; this costs about $2,500. In addition, there is an HOA fee. However, that gives you access to all the amenities I just told you about. Finally, some of the lots are a little bit hilly.
