Stafford County High Schools

Are you thinking of moving to Stafford, VA and have a high school student or a soon-to-be high school student? If so, you’ll want to know about all the cool, unique programs that Stafford County has to offer. This will help you make an informed decision of where you might want to buy your new home.

Stafford County is home to five amazing high schools: Colonial Forge, Mountain View, Brooke Point, North Stafford, and Stafford High School. Each one of these high schools offers different and unique programs, and they're all about five miles apart. So before you move here, here are some of the programs offered for students.

Brooke Point High School

The first high school I want to talk about is Brooke Point High School. It's located on the east side of Route 95 and Route 1. It has the International Baccalaureate diploma program, also known as the IB program. Brooke Point offers AP classes, the Navy JROTC program, and the STAT program.

The STAT program is the governor's STEM Academy for students that are interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Brooke Point is the home base for their IT program as well.

Colonial Forge High School

The next school we’ll look at is Colonial Forge, just a couple of miles down the road from Brooke Point. This school has the Army ROTC program, AP classes, and the internationally recognized AP Capstone diploma program. The AP Capstone program allows students to study topics of their choice that will stand out in the college admissions process.

Colonial Forge also has Career and Technical Education programs. This includes CGS, or Commonwealth Governor's School program. There are also dual enrollment (DE) classes, Learn and Serve, and a really unique program for students interested in becoming a paramedic.

The interesting thing about this school is that Colonial Forge and Brooke Point share a bus. So if you have a student that's going to one school as their home base school, they can get on a bus and head to the other school for one of their programs, like the STAT program or Governor’s School. It’s a unique opportunity if you’re living in one neighborhood and going to one high school but your child wants to participate in another.

Mountain View High School

Just down the road from Colonial Forge is Mountain View High School. It's one of the newest high schools in Stafford County and also has the IB program. Students can take advantage of a variety of AP, culinary arts, and cosmetology classes.

Mountain View also offers dual enrollment and the Marine Corps JROTC program. The unique thing about this high school is that its sister school also allows students to go back and forth if they're participating in different programs.

North Stafford High School

Mountain View’s sister school is North Stafford High School, home of the Air Force JROTC program. It also has the CTE program, the Career and Technical Education program, and CGS. It also has the STAT program, which is the county's engineering and biomedical program.

Stafford High School

The fifth and final high school in Stafford County is Stafford High School. It's home to the APPX program—the Advanced Placement Programs of Excellence—and it also has the AP Capstone program. Students can also enjoy the CTE program, CGS, and dual enrollment classes.

Busing To Other Schools

My son is in one program that's not offered at our home base school. So around lunchtime, he hops on a bus, goes to another school, and then takes four of his classes at another high school. He then takes his bus back to his home base school.

However, with some programs—like cosmetology—you may not have busing from one school to another as an option. This means you’ll want to make sure you're considering what program your student would be interested in before you buy that house. If not, understand that you or your child may be driving that school.

In addition, many of these programs require students to apply, and there is a process to get accepted. So if you have a high school student, you may want to consider contacting the high school before moving here to make sure that your student meets the criteria required to enter into that program.
