HOT LANES? Another term you may never have heard if you’ve never lived in Virginia.

HOT stands for High Occupancy Toll & here’s how it works.

3 or More Riders = Free to drive in the HOT Lanes
All you need is three or more people in your car with your E-ZPass® Flex set to HOV mode. If you ride a motorcycle there is no toll and no need for an E-Z Pass®. REMINDER - you MUST have an E-ZPass Flex, not a regular EZ pass to ride at no charge with 3 or more riders. If you are using a regular E-ZPass you will be charged.

2 or Less Rider

Cost is based on “Dynamic Pricing” or supply and demand. Rates for those traveling with less than 3 rides are posted on the road signs. And even before hitting the road, you can plug your entry and exit points into the Express Lanes mobile app for an approximate cost of your trip.
