If you’ve never lived in Northern VA you may never have heard of the term “Slugging”.

Slugging is an organized system where people commuting to Washington DC may stop to pickup other passengers (even though they are complete strangers) or those who don't want to drive can get a ride to/from DC and the Pentagon area.

Prior to COVID19, the most popular spot for Slugging in Stafford was the Mine Rd. Lot, just south of Garrisonville Rd. Slugging from this lot begins around 4:30 a.m. and is generally full by around 6:15 a.m. There are currently two lines: one for DC "downtown" destinations and another for the Pentagon/Crystal City.

The Route 610 Lot (aka Staffordboro) commuter lot is located across from Lowe's. Slugs stand near the bus stop shelter near the center of the commuter lot and wait for a ride. Best Hours from this lot: 5:45 a.m. - 7:30 a.m. If no slugs are available, an option is to drive to Potomac Mills or Horner Road for possible riders.
